Dorothy Fox Elicker, a resident of White Horse Village in Newtown Square, PA passed away on September 13, 2025 from natural causes. She was born February 4, 1934 to the late Josephine Lucy Buck Fox and Edward J. Fox Jr of Easton, PA. She was educated at The Ethel Walker School and received two B.A. degrees from Bryn Mawr College, one in Anthropology, another in Sociology.
Dorothy was happiest when surrounded by her family and delighted in their stories and merriment. She lived her life with an adventurous spirit traveling far and wide. She was a lover of books, bridge, birds and gardening, creating gardens at her longtime home in Newtown Square and then at White Horse Village. When her four children were largely grown, Dorothy worked at her alma mater, Bryn Mawr College, first at Wyndham Alumnae House, followed by many years at Bryn Mawr’s Canaday Library.
Her love of books was evidenced by her many volunteer roles at Newtown Square Public Library, including managing the book sales and art exhibits. She was a founding member and on the Board of Directors of both the Friends of Newtown Library and the Newtown Square Historical Society. She led a long-term book group at White Horse Village and volunteered at the library for the assisted living unit.
Dorothy had exceptional organizational abilities and offered her skills through her small business, Dorothy Declutter, proceeds from which she donated to the Lucy Fund at the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). It gave her much pleasure to clean up and clean out, and one favorite activity was coordinating the Newtown Square semiannual sale that benefitted the Newtown Square Fire Company.
Dorothy is survived by three of her four children: John Elicker Jr. (Julianne), Kathleen Hoffman (Kurt, deceased), and Elizabeth Elicker. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lucy Stanovick (John), and sisters Millicent Mailliard (William) and Joy Reed (H. Edward). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and five (soon to be eight) great grandchildren: John Elicker III (Lauren), Eric Elicker (Meredith), Anne Salvitti (Andrew), Kelly Mouton (James), Josephine Gulati (Owen), Nicholas Stanovick (Alexa), Kathleen Stanovick, and Benjamin Shea, and her brother-in-law, H. Edward Reed.
The family sends deep appreciation to the staff of White Horse Village and Main Line Health HomeCare & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newtown Public Library, 201 Bishop Hollow Road, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held Friday, November 28th at 11am at White Horse Village, 535 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square, PA.
