William "Bill" McGowan

November 22, 1937 — November 21, 2020

William (Bill)Joseph McGowan, a resident of Fair Acres Geriatric Center  in Middletown, and former resident of Springfield, Pa  passed away on November 21, 2020.  Bill was 82 years-old. After suffering from a brief illness he was under the Compassionate Care Hospice at Riddle Hospital in Media.

Bill was raised in Philadelphia and attended Bishop Neuman High School. He graduated in 1956.  An avid baseball player, Bill played during high school and on local leagues.  A loyal fan of the Eagles and the Phillies, he watched the games faithfully.

Bill was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Kevin’s Church in Springfield where he became a Eucharist Minister.

Bill worked as a driver for the Brinks Armored Truck Company  for years where he met his wife to be, Mary. She worked at one of the banks where he made pickups for Brinks. It was love at first sight.  After leaving Brinks, he worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer as a courier.   Never one to retire, Bill worked as a transport driver at Surrey Senior Services.

Bill was predeceased by the love of his life, Mary Kennedy Boyer. They were married for 45 years at the time of her passing.

Together they shared their love for travel, rescuing animals from turtles to dogs and a deep love for their many cats.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, John and Theresa Doyle, his sisters, Catherine(Cassie) Eisele, Margaret Doyle, Mary Lou Doyle and his brother, James Doyle.

He is survived by this brother, John Doyle (Laura), Brother in Law, William Eisele, Sister in Law, Maureen Doyle, his step-daughters, Anne Neborak (Jack Corcoran), Margaret Higgins(Joseph) and Mary Nenstiel (Joseph).  He is survived by nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
