Walter Jarek

March 14, 1946 — April 17, 2020

Walter Joseph Jarek, 74, lifelong Essington, Tinicum Township resident, an Original Swamp Rat! Walt was called home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2020. He was a Machinist by trade and sheet metal assembler. He worked at Westinghouse and retired from Boeing in 2014.

Walt was a man of God and his faith lead him to lead others to Christ. He previously was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Church bus driver at 1st Baptist Church of Essington.  He truly enjoyed seeing and making others happy! He wore his heart on his sleeve.

He was proud of his home town. He loved telling tales of Tinicum. He enjoyed sharing local history, and family heritage. Every car ride with him was a history lesson. He loved dancing, rollerskating, joy rides with friends, old gospel hymns, arrow heads, coins, reading, and writing things down in his journal. He loved yard sales but even more so he got a kick out of asking the question “How much do you think I paid for it?”

Walter will be greatly missed by many. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. A true friend, wonderful neighbor, co-worker, and father figure to many.

Son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Allen) Jarek. Predeceased by his daughter Kelly Ellixson and sister Anna Thompson.

Walt is survived by his wife of 52 years Pauline R. Jarek (nee Harrison), Daughters: Anna Zajac (Joe) of Lester, Jennifer Chestnut (Scott) of Aston, sons: Jason Jarek (Amanda) of Essington, Jeremy Jarek (Margie) of Woodlyn and Paul Jarek (Jackie) of Lansdale. Brother in law Leon Thompson of Guin, Alabama. He was also a proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren: Kimber, Joey, Kelly, Kennady, Brian, Bailey, Daniel, Aiden, Lainey, Leah, Harleigh, Hannah, Cadie, Ryleigh, McKenna, Asher, Isaiah, and Judah. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, and extended family.
