Susan Martin

May 31, 1951 — November 16, 2020

Susan R. Martin, age 69, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on November 16, 2020.

Born in Drexel Hill, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Clarence M. Sr. and Roberta J. (nee Cooper) Martin.

Susan was a graduate of Marple-Newtown High School, Class of 1969, and sang in choir.

Susan was employed with Bell Telephone / Verizon from 1971 to her retirement in 2003, where she had fun and “wild times” while at the Wayne location.  She developed longtime friendships with her co-workers Loretta, Chris, Ruth, Florence, Elaine, Ginny, Cathy, and Ruth. She also played catcher for the Bell Softball Team.

Susan was an EMT instructor at Delaware County Community College and a “Life Member” of the Springfield Ambulance.  She ran day crew for years with Diane, Kay, and Ed.   She volunteered her time to run thousands of calls over the years and was recognized as E.M.S. of the year on Loyalty Day 2012.  She organized and enjoyed their Christmas parties. Susan was a valuable mentor to her colleagues and teaching others how to save lives was her passion.

Susan was a Flyers Season ticket holder with her Dad and her friends Dan and Mike and saw the Flyers win the 1975 Stanley Cup.

Family was most important to her.  Christmas season was her favorite time of year to share with her family annual trips to Canada.  She played Pinochle, shopped in Alexandria Bay, taught kids how to perfectly toast a marshmallow, and took boat rides around the 1000 Island.

Susan shared a special bond with her Aunt Ruth Martin, now deceased.  Aunt Ruth taught her how to be “Aunt Sue” to other children.  She also travelled to Italy, Switzerland, and France with her Aunt Ruth.

She cherished shared times hunting with her father and brothers.  She loved to spoil her nieces, nephews, and their friends and any child who crossed her path.  She took them on adventures of camping, theme parks, Phillies games, and to Zoo’s.  She supported their growth in school, sports, and activities, attending their games, competitions and recitals and taught them how to drive. Susan was also a Girl Scouts troop leader.

Susan was the first person to be there during difficult times. She never forgot a birthday and would call to sing!  She also sang calming lullabies that would put any baby to sleep and played organ with her Mom and played the guitar around campfires.

Susan enjoyed life after retirement with her close friends Loretta, Denise, Carol, Diane, and Tiffany.  She enjoyed dinner parties, movies, lunching at her favorite place – Cracker Barrel – loved their green beans and chicken dumplings, and looked forward to Longwood Gardens and the Flower Show every year!

Susan was the loving sister of Irene Perry, Robert Martin (Patricia), Pamela McArdle, Edward Martin (Bonnie), and Gregory Martin (Barbara).  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Martin, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and her lifelong friend, Loretta Forde.  She is predeceased by her brother, Clarence Martin, Jr.
