Susan Bustard

June 21, 1954 — April 4, 2021

On Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, Susan Rebecca Bustard (nee Lipnik) age 66, passed away quietly at her home in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

After a life hard fought, her battles with juvenile onset diabetes and most recently, kidney failure are over. Sue never did anything “suddenly”, yet she left us suddenly and peacefully, at home.

She was born June 21, 1954 in Detroit, MI to Lois Wertheimer and Dr. Morris J. Lipnik. Sue grew in Southfield, MI. She was an avid horseback rider  and figure skater growing up. Sue never failed to casually mention that she was coached by Olympic gold medalist Peggy Fleming.

Sue married John in October, 1974 in Franklin, MI. The two met while vacationing in Rome, Italy in December, 1972 with Donna Aglira and her best friend in this life, Karen Entin Walkon.

On December 4, 1979 and August 10th, 1989 respectively, she adopted her cherished daughters. In Sue's own words, “I couldn't have done better herself, if I tried."

During her reign as Maple Avenue Mom to many the girls needed an education.

Susan thoroughly enjoyed her many years volunteering in the Delaware County community. She took on many roles with true passion, commitment, and an inability to say "no" regardless of her own health or wellness. Some examples of her incredible volunteer work included helping staff and students at Garrettford Elementary, helping decorate prom dances and organizing the Flea Market and President of the Home & School Assn. at Upper Darby High School. Sue chaperoned countless school and camping trips. Susan was also enthusiastically involved with her children’s sports, music, and the arts. If there was a job that paid nothing, Sue was there.

Later in life, Sue and John became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Once again, Sue became an active participant in helping members of her local Ward in West Philadelphia. She loved receiving her Scripture lessons from the “her” Missionaries at Philly 1st Ward. Sue took pride in taking care of them by providing meals and a warm place like home.

Sue spent her pandemic days video calling her children and grandchildren, browsing the internet for videos of recipes, heartwarming moments, and funny animals, and sharing them for all to see. She was quite happy in her final week being released from FaceBook jail after a months incarceration.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Bustard of Drexel Hill, PA; her daughters Jamie (Jason) McNatt of Bear, DE and Julia (Joseph) Curry of Las Vegas, NV; her adored father Dr. Morris J. Lipnik of Bonita Springs, FL. Sue will be missed by her beloved grandchildren Colin, Rory, Jordan, Miles, Pierce and David; her  treasured sister Carol (Jerry) Sebastian of Estero, FL and her nephew, Stephen Viola.

She is missed already by many, many other beloved family members and friends.

She is predeceased by her dear mother, Lois Lipnik and her cool aunt, Doris Wertheimer.
