Shirley Kopple

September 23, 1931 — April 26, 2020

Shirley Janette Kopple (nee Sheely) passed away on April 26, 2020 at the age of 88 in Wayne, Pa.

She received her undergraduate degree at Syracuse University. She graduated with an M.F.A. from Columbia University, where she was a recipient of the Brevoort-Eickemeyer Fellowship. Throughout her career, Shirley would receive other accolades and recognition for her artwork and teaching.

Shirley was a popular and talented student.  A  naturally creative person, she developed a life-long love of the works of Claude Monet, who once said:  “I owe my having become a painter to flowers.”  She was a wife and mother.  She was also a professor, museum curator, and world traveler.  Shirley will be greatly missed for her sense of adventure and ability to enjoy life to the fullest.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Alexander J. Kopple. She is survived by her daughters Suzanne J. Kopple, Kathryn A. Kopple, Melissa J. Kopple and Deborah A. Kopple, as well as five grandchildren.
