Robert V. Rex

June 7, 1927 — January 20, 2020

Robert V. Rex, 92, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020, at the Park Lane Skilled Nursing Center at Bellingham in West Chester, PA, following a recent stroke.

Bob and his beloved wife, Janet (née Stead), made their home and raised their two daughters in Newtown Square from 1959 until just one year ago when they transitioned into Personal Care at the Bellingham Retirement Community in West Chester, PA.

The son of the late Rob Roy Rex and Marjorie Bare Rex, Bob and his 3 siblings were raised on Cleveland Avenue in Norwood, Delaware County, PA.

Bob was a 1945 graduate of Glen-Nor High School (now Interboro) and served domestically in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged in 1946.   Bob held various jobs throughout his life, including working for Bell Telephone Company and Scott Paper Company.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Janet E. (née Stead) Rex and his two daughters;  Susan Rex Ryan (David) of Las Vegas, NV, Cynthia Rex Ayers (Guy) of Valley Forge, PA and brother Richard M. Rex of Media, PA. He is also survived by brother-in-law Richard Goldsborough as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Anne Rex Goldsborough in 2010 and Doris Rex Schutte in 2014.

In June of 1948, Bob met the love of his life, the former Janet E. Stead, at a school dance held at Ridley High School.  Married in 1952, they were blessed with a strong and happy marriage lasting over 67 years.  They enjoyed quiet, simple times alone together and especially with their two daughters and their husbands.  Bob also enjoyed day trips out to Lancaster County and to Chesapeake Bay towns with Janet, as well as watching Phillies games on TV and simple pleasures like sitting outside of his garage on a nice summer evening.

Everyone who knew Bob associated him with one thing – cars!  His lifelong passion for the automobile gave him much pleasure from his childhood days in the 1930’s through his late eighties.  Bob restored and owned countless antique and vintage cars and was primarily a “Ford Man”.  He was a former member of the AACA and often served as a judge at various car meets.

Bob, with his great sense of humor, quick wit and infectious smile, will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him and enjoyed his company.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the memory of Robert V. Rex be sent to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA  19380.  Bob was very fond of both dogs and cats and he and Janet loved their “grandcats”!

Services and interment in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA will be private.
