Robert Pickles

May 17, 1929 — July 14, 2020

Robert “Bob” D. Pickles, age 91, of King of Prussia, PA., passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Born on May 17, 1929 in Montgomery County, PA., to the late, Albert Newell Pickles, Sr., & Beatrice (nee Scholl) Pickles. Bob was the devoted husband of Miriam G. (nee Martin) Pickles; loving father of Gloria Carfrey (Joe) & Linda Ryan (Tim); caring grandfather of Joseph R. (Michelle) & Jennifer Carfrey; dear brother of the late, Albert, Chuck, Ruth & Jean. Bob is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

Pop-pop was an early bird. He enjoyed the early morning hours by himself. First he would shower, then make breakfast. The radio would be playing the news while he sipped his first cup of coffee. Bacon, eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice was his favorite. When my brother and I would spend the night at Mimi's and Pop-pop's house, he loved making breakfast for us.

He also enjoyed going out on the patio throughout the day. Pop-pop enjoyed yard work and spending time outside. He liked taking care of the grass and flowers around the patio. He also had hanging flower baskets. I remember when he planted a rose vine for me, Mimi and my mom.  After he planted them, I would always see a small vase with a single rose on the counter. He built me a doll house and enjoyed showing it to me as it progressed. He very much enjoyed building things and was very handy around the house.

In the summer, Pop-pop would leave the sprinkler out for my brother and me. We enjoyed jumping through the sprinkler. He would also watch us ride our 3-wheeled bikes on the patio. Sometimes he would also take us to Merrymead Farms to see the "big fat pig” as he would call him. When we went, my brother and I were treated to ice cream and a ring pop. Another place he liked to take us was the "Little Zoo", also known as Elmwood Park Zoo. He was a grandfather who enjoyed spoiling his grandkids.

Pop-pop liked magic and trying to capture our noses. He also insists that an imaginary being named Egore lives in the basement. He would say, 'Did you see Egore? He’s down there."

At night, I remember waiting for the 'Numbers'. The numbers were the PA Lottery numbers that came on before Jeopardy would come on. After that, we would go downstairs to watch movies because we wanted to sit on the tall bar stool chairs. One of his favorite games was Parcheesi. We would sit around the table to see who would get sent back home. We would spend hours playing this game.

NASCAR Races were always on and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He also liked to gamble at the casinos, especially in Las Vegas. He will always be loved & missed dearly.
