Robert Gallagher "Pop"

March 4, 1930 — March 30, 2020

Robert C. Gallagher of Secane, Pennsylvania was called to be with the Lord on March 30, 2020. Pop, as he was know by most, passed away from heart failure, shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Pop was born on March 4, 1930, to father William John and mother Charlotte Rose Lister and was the middle of three sons.   Early in life, Pop was called to serve our country by fighting as a sniper in the Korean War.  He earned many honors and medals including the Purple Heart for the injury that sent him home after spending the better part of a year healing in a Japanese Hospital.

Bob Gallagher was a Christian man with a strong sense of values and a true example of a hard working, loving family man. He treasured the years spent raising his children.  Pop spent time with his family shooting bows and rifles, hiking through the mountains to beautiful cliffs and water holes, canoeing, and playing ping pong, among many other activities.  He was a magician who never gave up his secrets.

Whether through a quiet moment playing checkers or through an adventure in the mountains, Pop used practical examples to continuously teach his family about will power, trusting in a God who cannot be seen and committing to do what is right, not what is easy.

Pop was always active. He was an avid runner, still running 20 miles in his 60s. He was a man of many trades and ended his career working along side his son and grandson in construction until he was 88 years old. He had a problem solving mind and could fix just about anything.  He gave back in many ways and enjoyed assisting his loving wife in service to wounded warriors.  He was an active member of Holmes Presbyterian Church and enjoyed serving, as well as golfing with fellow Christ followers from his church.

One of his accomplishments was placing in the Keystone Games, to qualify for the Olympics in Archery, outshooting men in much younger age brackets. His love of Native American culture permeated many of the tales he created to entertain his family while on trips in the mountains. He eventually published a book based on these wonderful stories.

Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend has traveled many paths and has touched countless lives.  The world will truly feel the loss of this man and he will be missed by all who knew him.  He will be followed by a living legacy.

Robert Gallagher was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William and George Gallagher; daughter in law Carol Gallagher; and great-grandson Robert Beyers Jr.  Pop is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Margaret Gallagher; children John Gallagher (Carol), Susan Wyeth (Dale), and Jim Gallagher (Patty); step children William Ervin, Steven Ervin, Robert Ervin, Mandy Morrison (Chris); grandchildren Thomas Beyers Jr, Robert Beyers, Jim Magee (Lisa), Lori Beyers, Joshua Gallagher, Steven Beyers (Amanda), Jeffrey Gallagher, William Ervin, Dominic Ervin, Steven Ervin, Amanda Morrison, Joshua Morrison, Zachary Morrison, Sophia Morrison; and great-grandchildren Alison, Adam, Jacob, Violet, Hazel, Noelle Beyers
