Richard Donovan

December 13, 1940 — April 3, 2021

Richard J. Donovan, age 80, of Newtown Square, Pa, formerly of Merion Station, Pa, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa, the son of the late John P. and Mary (nee Millar) Donovan; survived by his nieces and nephews: John P. Donovan III (Janet), Brian Donovan (Carol), Ann Markley, Sean Donovan (Evelyn), McCarthy Donovan (Christine), & Roberta Nuss (James). Richard is also survived by four great nephews and three great nieces and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his four brothers:  John P. Jr, Edward, Joseph and Daniel.

Richard was a graduate of Waldron Academy and Lower Merion High School. In his younger years, he was employed as a laborer in his father’s construction firm, as a proud member of Laborers’ Union District Council 332. He later worked many years at Villanova University in the dining services. Richard deeply treasured the many friendships he formed wherever he found himself. He was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. Richard followed Villanova and Notre Dame football, and Saint Joseph’s and Villanova basketball with equal passion. Richard enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore. First and foremost, Richard loved his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Saturday, April 10, 2021, 9:30 – 10:00 AM at Saint Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, Pa  19073, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.  Interment Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Pa.

Contributions in Richard’s memory can be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA  19066.
