Marlene Mullen

October 2, 1941 — February 9, 2021

Marlene J. “Mar” Mullen, age 79, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Newtown Square and Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 9, 2021, in Clearwater, FL.

Marlene was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Natale and Edith (nee Terzano) Masi, and was raised in Drexel Hill, PA.  She brought-up her two girls in Newtown Square, PA and resided there until 1997, when she moved to the warm weather in Clearwater, Florida.

As a child Marlene attended Manoa Elementary School, and as a teenager she was a student at Haverford Junior High and graduated from Haverford Senior High School. She went onto Gwynedd Mercy College in Lower Gwynedd Township and received a degree as a Medical Secretary.  After graduation, she and friends raised money through beef and beers to travel through Europe for 3 months. She married Dave Mullen and had 2 girls, Kandi and Natalie.  A few years later, they divorced and Marlene never remarried.

Mar had a love for food, especially Italian cuisine. She enjoyed cooking for her family and sharing a good glass of wine with them over dinner.  She was an avid reader and realized at one point she had read all of the books in the library. She held an extensive knowledge of history and politics. Many friends commented on her debate skills when discussing opposing views. Mar loved playing poker with friends and family. She was energized when traveling to Las Vegas and Atlantic City to play the slot machines. She also enjoyed horse races both live and on television. As a teenager, Mar was on “American Bandstand” and loved to listen to the oldies. She got a kick out of watching British sitcoms, especially “Are You Being Served?”

Mar was the loving mother of Marlene “Kandi” Mullen and Natalie Connors; the devoted grandmother of Alexandria, Christopher, Matthew and Gabrielle and the dear sister of Patti Masi.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Mar is predeceased by her sister, Joan Schmincke and brother-in-law, the late Dan Schmincke.
