Marion Falco

d. November 15, 2020

Marion Rose Falco was born on April 10th, Palm Sunday, and was a beloved sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Born in Overbrook, Philadelphia to John Garaguso, a lawyer, and Mary Brennan Garaguso, a music teacher, she always spoke of her family with great love and affection.  At the tender age of 6, she lost her mother, and then her father at the age of 18 during her freshman year of college. Her dear sister Anita Garaguso Cella became the center of her world until her untimely death in 1981. She attended St. Leonards Academy from grades 1 through 12 where she was nurtured by the Sisters of the Holy Child and made lifelong friends.  Upon graduation from Drexel University, Marion started her high school teaching career in Sudlersville, MD, followed by Avon Grove, PA, and then for the remainder and majority of her career at Clifton Heights High School which merged with Upper Darby School District.  To her, teaching was a calling.  She “loved every day of it.”

In 1954 she married the boy next door, Michael Falco, at St. Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill.  They moved to Drexelbrook and eventually settled in Broomall, PA in 1955 where they became members of St. Pius X parish, and raised three children; Michael, Ellen and Anita.  During their 40 year marriage, which ended due to the sudden passing of her husband Michael, they enjoyed an active social life, entertaining, and traveling with their many wonderful friends.  Marion was very active at St. Pius X Church.  She served as CCD principal, was a founding member of the choir, where she sang up until 2018, and organized many activities such as shows, social events and fundraisers.  In addition, she was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus.  From an early age Marion was not one to sit idle.  As a teenager she was a messenger girl during WWII, and during her life was frequently involved in clubs and activities such as a bowling league, ceramic group, and card clubs.  Anyone who knew Marion witnessed her joie de vie, as she truly loved and appreciated life. She was known for her great sense of humor and could be counted on for always offering an encouraging word, supportive advice, and a warm embrace. Marion truly and deeply loved her friends and family, and never hesitated to tell them so. If you asked her how her day was going, she would respond "Every day's a good day. God gave me another day".

Marion is survived by her children Michael Falco ( Barbara ), Ellen Irwin ( Bryan), and Anita Higgins, her grandchildren Michael Falco, John Falco, Allison Francis ( TJ  ) , Emily Irwin, Nathaniel Higgins ( Kelley ), Collin Higgins, and Evan Higgins, her great grandchildren Prudence Falco, Holly Falco, and Peyton Higgins, and her loving nephews John Cella ( Ruth ) and Chip Cella ( Debbie ), niece Marion Ries ( Greg ) and 6 great nephews and nieces.  She will be dearly missed and remembered for her unwavering faith, and her wonderful attitude of gratitude.
