Marc Ferguson

April 9, 1972 — November 1, 2020

Marc William Ferguson, Sr., age 48, of South Philadelphia, PA, passed away on November 1, 2020. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Patricia Ferguson (nee Ashmore) and Vito V. Maturo).

Marc was a graduate of Mercy Vocational High School in Philadelphia. He had been employed as a Security Guard at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Marc worked with the “Gravy Seals” to help keep the citizens of So Philly safe during the riots of 2020. He fought to keep the history and heritage of our city alive by fighting for the Christopher Columbus statue, Mayor Rizzo statue and mural in the Italian market. Marc petitioned for median parking on So Broad street to allow citizens of our congested city to have more access to parking spots. He was awarded the Difference Maker 2016 award by the South Philly Review for creating awareness in the city and fighting to give a voice to those who have been unheard in our community. Marc was one of the organizers for the Facebook group “Taking our South Philly Streets Back” who has been mentioned on several occasions by local news stations for making a difference in the community and standing up for our citizens. He petitioned for stop signs at dangerous intersections in the city to ensure the safety of the children in our neighborhood.

Marc was a huge advocate for the people of Philadelphia. He went out of his way to ensure that if he saw a problem, he worked his hardest to solve it. Marc was an firm believer of equal rights and an advocate for safety in his neighborhood. He wore many hats, but his job as a security guard at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (where he worked for 9 years before he began his dialysis treatments and was unable to work) was one he took great pride in. Marc loved working with the children and being able to provide a safe environment for them. Marc was one of the sweetest men you could ever meet (unless you messed with his family, of course). He would give you the shirt off his back – or take down his own Christmas tree and deliver it in the pouring rain to his daughter who needed it last December. Marc loved his family dearly and his wife was always his number 1 .. until his grandson came along that is. Marc loved being a pop-pop more than anything in the world. He was a loving father, brother and uncle. He loved fishing and smoking cigars. He loved his friends and was an absolute goofball (in the best way).

In addition to his mother, Marc is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia A. Santaguida (nee Canal); 4 children, Brianna Ferguson, Marc Ferguson Jr., Mia Ferguson, Dominique Covian (nee Santaguida); his grandson, Aiden; his siblings Debra Kavalkovich (Ken), Steven Goldfarb (Linda), Michelle Fraietta (aka Bippy), nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
