L. Steven Moore

August 16, 1943 — March 1, 2020

L. Steven Moore, 76, of Downingtown, PA, passed away March 1, 2020.

Born August 16, 1943 in Elkhart, IN, he was a son of the late Lawrence A. and Carolyn B. (nee Heaton) Moore.

Steven served honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army.   During the Vietnam War as a 2Lt, he earned the Bronze Star with Valor. He was also awarded the Purple Heart, which he denied, citing “my men were wounded far more severely than me”.  Upon returning from Vietnam, he worked as a Senior Advisor at the Wilmington Reserve Center, tasked with notifying the families of fallen soldiers in Vietnam. Steven volunteered at the VA in both Coatesville and Philadelphia, talking to vets and their families and helping them to process their experiences and grief. He was immensely proud of his time in the military and welcomed home many brothers and sisters in arms.

He was active in the church; singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. He was also involved with the drama, lighting, and sound at the churches where they served. He was an avid reader, enjoyed movies, playing chess and collecting chess boards. He was a talented woodworker, and implemented design and drafting. He was an engineer and held several patents. His design legacy includes the flooring at the Philadelphia Zoo in the giraffe cages and the Children’s Treehouse as well as the flooring at Longwood Gardens. He certainly enjoyed food. But above all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 51 years, his children and grandchildren.

Steven was the beloved husband of Beverly E. Moore, loving father of Jeramie Todd Moore (Gail), Tamitha Joy Sellers (Trevor), Loren Matthew Moore (Megan), and Randy Troy Moore; adoring grandfather of Haley, Jaxon, Victoria, Tristan, Christopher, Greg, Jade, Helene, and Deacon; and dear brother of Marlene F. Abraham (the late Thomas) and C. Dale Moore (Mary). He was predeceased by his brother, Gary J. Moore.
