Joseph Gillespie Jr.

September 21, 1946 — February 9, 2021

Joseph Paul “Joe” Gillespie Jr. age 74 of Drexel Hill, PA passed away on February 9, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Sr. and Rosemary T. (nee Scura) Gillespie. He was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner class 1964.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S Joseph Strauss DDG-16 during the Vietnam War.  He was employed as a machinist, barber and worked in the automotive industry as a Certified Master Detailer for Toyota and, most recently, he shuttled elderly people to and from medical appointments.

Joe spent a lot of time at the New Jersey shore. He liked golfing with the guys and dancing on Friday nights. He would reminisce about his teenage years boating with his friends. He had a great love for animals especially his cat, Lucky, and his dog, Coco. Through the years he enjoyed going to the movies and eating ice cream with his six grandchildren. He also made many memories with his life-long friends, especially the Connors. To this day he enjoyed weekly dinners with his best friend, Fran Connor and his wife Karen. But, we would have to say eating an entire chocolate cake and burnt chocolate chip cookies with a half-gallon of milk, (who puts ice in their milk?) was a favorite past time. He was a big kid at heart and always made people laugh. He loved his family and friends and was always the life of the party. You will be missed by many, but not forgotten. Smooth Sailing Joe, we hope you finally “make a mint.”

Joe was the loving father of Frances Rosemary Consiglio, Pamela Rose Repetto (Vince) and Joseph P. Gillespie III (Amy).  He was the proud grandfather of McKenzie Consiglio, Michele Leicth (Glenn), Vincent Repetto Jr., Anthony Repetto, Julia Repetto and Luke Gillespie; and great-grandfather of Sydney Rose Leitch. He is also survived by his former wife, Sandra Alexis Moreland Csanady.

Services and interment will be held privately.

The Funeral Mass is to be live streamed beginning at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 19, 2021. Click the following link for live stream of Funeral Mass:
