Joseph Cadet

Joseph Leonel Cadet passed away peacefully on August 29, 2020 in Philadelphia.

He was born to Edner Cadet and Georgette Maxi in Port au Prince, Haiti on 3/27/1941.

He completed his Primary Studies at Freres du Sacre Coeur of Port au Prince, then went on to graduate High School at Lycee Antenor Firmin of Port au Prince. He earned his Law degree at the UEH, Faculte de Droit et des Sciences Economiques of Port au Prince, then went on to get his Advanced Law Degree in Bordeaux, France.

Well known as Maitre Cadet, he began his Law career at Direction Generale Des Impots (DGI) where he retired after a successful career as “Directeur Adjoint” after more than 30 years. Leonel was also in private practice at Cabinet Lamarre during this time. He moved on to the Department Des Affaires Sociales as Directeur General for two years.

During his career, Maitre Cadet worked diligently as Advisor to many organizations including the Red Cross (La Croix Rouge Haitienne), the Haitian Bar Association, The Association Nationale des Scouts d’Haiti, and many Universities.

Leonel was an enthusiastic professor and taught law at many prestigious universities in Haiti, including: CANADO Haitien, INAGHEI, Quisqueya, GOC, Universite Notre Dame, Faculte de Medecine, Ecole des Infirmieres, Ecole des Sages Femmes, Universite Adventiste de Carrefour, UEH/Faculte des Sciences Economiques de Port au Prince, Universite Jean Price Mars, Ecole de Droits de Gonaives, PAODES Unversite, CEDI and many others over the years.

Leonel, lovingly known as Lolo, was preceded in death by his parents Edner and Georgette; by his brothers Ulrick, Joseph & Emile, and his sister, Bernadette.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marie Yolaine Francois, whom he married in 1971 at Eglise St. Yves of Port au Prince; their children, daughter, Dr. Karen Cadet-Saintilus (Dr. Derold Saintilus) and children Darielle Amerie and Sarai Doranne; daughter, Wendy Cadet Owie (Kelvin Owie) and children Adesuwa Marie and Esosa Elize; by his sister, Marie Andree Josette Cadet; his aunt Gerta Maxi; his sisters-in-law, Marie-Jose Der Cadet and Gilda Jean-Louis; brother-in-law, Jean-Emmanuel Fabre; cousin- in-law, Marie Suze Gavillet (Jean Paul Gavillet); cousin, Marie Carmel Tancrede Beard (Charlmers Beard) and children; cousin, Marie Carmel Maxi Marius (Edward Marius) and children; cousin, Marie Solange Francois Durandisse (Beauvoir Durandisse) and children; Evelyn Francois; Jean Camille Francois; Marie Kettly Rousseau Eugene (Franck Eugene); cousins, Frantz Maxi and Family; Samuel Maxi and Family; and Ruth Maxi Joseph and family.

He will be remembered by his nephews and nieces: Emile John Cadet; Kentia Dazulma; Corey Cadet; Spencer Rody Dazulma; Madglara Dazulme-Amedee (Kyvens Amedee) and children, Kyara-Jane, Jacob Samuel & Sara Victoria; Katia Cadet (Alex Smith) and children, Elijah & Axel; Marjorie Charles and children, Olivia & Josiah; Rachel Romain (Donald Romain) and children, Joy Donna-Rose & Donald Benson-Jean; Dominique Lamothe (Alexandre Lamothe) and children Alexa & Thaddeus Gabriel; Aimee Jean-Louis (Horace Rooney) and children Asa & Grace-Anaiah; Christopher Jean-Louis (Quawetrail Jean-Louis) and daughter, Lilac; Jillienne Jean-Louis; Jean Fabre Jr.; Steve Fabre; Sophia Fabre; Cine family & children…. and by so many close friends and colleagues including Dr. Eddy Frederique, Dr. Roland Oscar, Dr. Frantz Saintyl, and Maitre Jocelyn Charles.

Lolo will be remembered as a loving father, a distinguished professor of Law, an Advisor and Counsellor to generations of students/lawyers, as a humorist, avid reader, and gardener.

We will forever remember you.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of Mercy Hospital and Kindred Hospital.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Celebration of life this Saturday September 5, 2020 at St. Francis deSales Church located at 4625 Springfield Avenue, Philadelphia PA, 19143; viewing 10-11 AM, Funeral Mass at 11 AM.. Interment will be private.

A Memorial Mass for Maitre Cadet will be celebrated in Port au Prince, Haiti at a later date.

Masks are to be worn for Visitation and Mass; Social distancing is always to be observed.
