John Hunt

John was born to Catherine and Cletus Hunt of York, Pennsylvania and grew up in York. He graduated from York Catholic High School in 1963. Upon Graduation he won a partial scholarship to Villanova University, graduating from there in 1967 with a B.S. degree in Physics. While in school he sang in the Villanova Singers, something he enjoyed doing very much. During high school and college, John worked at his father's photo lab, Simon Photo, where he processed rolls of color slide film and printed traditional black and white photos from Brownie cameras. John continued his education by attending Drexel University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Engineering Management in 1976.

John met his wife, Jane, at Villanova and they were married in May of 1968 at Holy Angels Church in Philadelphia. They are survived by four children, Cheryl Hunt Carrillo, Laura Hunt Little, Jeffrey M. Hunt, and Gregory J. Hunt and nine Grandchildren: Shawn and Nicholas Carrillo, Kurt and Adam Schawacker, Ashley L. Hunt, Evangeline V. Hunt and Jaxon Hunt, and Connor and Patrick Little.

John had a talent for playing the guitar and so did his wife Jane. This musical and spiritual connection was very meaningful to both of them. In 1972 they participated in a Marriage Encounter and following this experience became involved in volunteering and serving in their parish, St. John of the Cross in Sunday Music Ministry and helping couples prepare for marriage in Pre-Cana Preparation. In 1975 they attended their first prayer meeting and became music ministers for the weekly parish prayer meetings. This led to an active Sunday Mass Music Ministry which lasted for over 25 years in various Churches including St. John of the Cross, King of Peace, St. Anthony's, St. Joseph's in Downingtown and the Malvern Retreat House to name a few. They were music ministers together playing and singing for many weddings and funerals in the Archdiocese over the years. John and Jane also spent much time and energy fixing and remodeling almost every home they lived in, including kitchen and bathroom do-overs, finishing basements as play rooms, and adding closet space to bedrooms.

John's work career included working at the Frankford Arsenal, the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, and Boeing. John's career started as a civilian at Frankford Arsenal where he worked in the engineering development of artillery timing devises (sometimes called artillery fuzes). This work involved computer modeling of these tiny machines and working with the computing department. When Frankford Arsenal closed, he transferred to Naval Air Development Center (NADC) where he started as an analyst writing computer programs to predict the military effectiveness of the Navy's various weapons systems against the US Cold War enemies. He transferred to a computer lab that simulated a Navy Helicopter and how all the helicopter on-board equipment worked together in an integrated fashion to track a target. In 1977 he moved to Boeing Helicopter where he used his computing skills to initially teach computer usage to the aeronautical engineers to solve their design problems. He worked in the computing department to set up the first on-site computing network and get the computers on-line to exchange information to streamline the engineering design process. He continued in that role that included installing individual engineering workstations for the engineers, expanding the computing network, installing a high speed storage network and data storage devices, installing a high capacity backup system to preserve the data on the storage devices and providing "supercomputers" for the engineering departments to perform high speed simulations and testing of their models.

John also served on the Home Owners Association Board of Directors for 9 years at their Willistown Woods residence providing service to his local community.

John retired in January 2012 and picked up on his initial photography interests where he scanned all his slides and color negatives he took of his family and their activities. He further scanned photos of Jane's ancestors and photos his mother provided of him and his siblings while they were growing up. He enjoyed using Photoshop to fix photos that were creased, scratched and off color to make them appear more pleasant.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 7-9 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000 and 10-10:50 AM Thursday at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382, followed  by his Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Interment West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
