Clylas Knight, Jr.

Clylas Elwood Knight Jr., 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, August 20 at Freedom Village, West Brandywine, a community for seniors where he resided for the past 20 years. Tex, as he was affectionately known, was born on a farm just outside Hawley, Texas on Christmas Eve, 1925 to Exie (née Akens) and Clylas Elwood Knight. Raised in Amarillo with his younger sibling Robert Wallace, Tex graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942 and was shortly thereafter a commissioned officer at age 18, serving on the Navy oil tanker U.S.S. Quiros.  Following three years in the South Pacific, he attended the University of Texas and completed studies in B.S Mechanical Engineering. Further educational pursuits included an MBA in Finance at Widener University where he later taught advanced engineering.

Tex's professional life centered on Westinghouse Electric; specifically, the Power Generation and Industrial groups. He held multiple patents and was recognized by Westinghouse for system and component designs. The culmination of his career was as Managing Director of ISCOSA, Westinghouse's industrial services group located in Saudi Arabia where he lived with his beloved wife of 57 years, Scottie Lee (née Wilson). Using Dhahran as their home base they explored the globe via train, ship, plane and the Concorde to Thailand, France, England, Hong Kong, Australia, India, the Philippines, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and other international destinations. Wanderlust remained a part of their lives together.

By his own words, "Family is the basis of your being."  ("Things I Remember" published 2010). Tex and Scottie treasured being part of the Media, PA community of Park Ridge. This is where raised their three children; James C. (Barbara Anne, Downingtown, PA), Terry K. DiUbaldi (Ron, Cape May, NJ) and John D. (Julia P, Sleepy Hollow, IL). The family grew to include five grandchildren (Nicholas, Jonathan, Grady, Kelsey, Julia Morgan) and four great grandchildren (Reese, Ava, Madelyn, Porter Elwood).  As a member of the First Baptist Church of Media for 62 years, Tex served as a trustee and provided financial advice.  He immensely enjoyed the fellowship of his faith community.

At Freedom Village, he was an early chairman of the Finance Committee and remained a member of multiple community leadership teams, including founding of the Black Hatters mens social club, until his passing. With Scottie's passing in 2007, Tex was to later meet and share many happy moments with fellow Freedom Village resident Margaret Schafer.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 10-11 AM Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Media, 18 E 3rd Street, Media, PA 19063 followed by his Funeral Service 11 AM. Interment Media Cemetery.
