Bridget Smith

September 28, 1928 — May 14, 2020

Bridget (nee McFadden) Smith, Age 91, of West Chester, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on May 14, 2020.

Born in Falcarragh, County Donegal, Ireland in 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mannus and Kate McFadden.

Bridget was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. At age 20, she came to America on the Queen Elizabeth with just one suitcase in hand. Leaving her family in Ireland took incredible courage and bravery. She went on to meet her husband Jim and together, for almost 64 years, they built an extraordinary life together. As the Matriarch of the family, she exemplified love through her actions and always prayed for her family and friends. Devoted to the Blessed Mother, Bridget was never without her Rosary beads.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her beautiful garden filled with a variety of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed crocheting and would routinely make baby blankets for the new additions in the family. Even with so many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, amazingly, she never missed a birthday. Bridget was an extraordinary hostess and cook. Her Thanksgiving stuffing was always in high demand and her baking skills were even better. Bridget's homemade Jewish apple cake, chocolate chip and cheesecakes were popular and often requested at birthdays and holidays! She took great pride in taking care of her family and was always so proud of them. They meant everything to her. She will be greatly missed.

She was the beloved wife of James “Jim” Smith; loving mother of Mary Kulokoski (Rick), Theresa Callaghan, Jimmy Smith (Carol), Grace Smith, Anthony “Tony” Smith (Carrie), and the late Kathy Smith; dear sister of Nellie, John, Grace, Jim (Mary), Tony and sister-in-law Pat Smith; adoring grandmother of her grandchildren, Tom, Jennifer, Christine, Lauren, Greg, Shawn, Jillian, Colleen, Lisa, Ricky, Bridget, Tara, Frank, Stephanie, Jimmy, Julia, Catie, Michelle, Courtney, Kelly, Theresa, Maria, Seamus, Kristen, Jacqueline, Meghan, Kyra, and Shannon, her step-grandchildren, Ashley, Christine, Jon, and Ben, and 41 great-grandchildren.
