Bohdan Wozny

November 28, 1946 — September 10, 2020

Bohdan “Bo” Wozny (73) passed peacefully on September 10, 2020 after a very brave battle with cancer.  He was a loving grandfather, father, brother, and friend to many.  He was born in 1946, in Chester, Pa. and was the son of the late Stephen Wozny and Katherine (Luzecki) Wozny.  He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine M. (Gallagher) Wozny; loving father of Charlene T. Gallagher (Robert) of West Chester, Michael J. Wozny (Bethanne) also of West Chester and the late Lisa Wozny; devoted grandfather of Ashley, Christopher, Kelly, Nora, Liam, and Ava; and dear brother of the late Stephen Wozny Jr. and the late Linda Fedena.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1972, during which he sailed on the USS Keppler.  He was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal.  He eventually settled in West Chester where he bought a house, built a home, and raised his family.

He was a proud Union Millwright (Local 1906) by trade.  His precision, attention to detail, and welding abilities were unmatched.  He served as a mentor and shared his knowledge and talent with many during his time with the Millwrights.  His tool collection, although some “borrowed,” was impressive.  When something broke in his house, no matter your plans for the day, you were his apprentice.  Although at the time, handing him tools and holding a flashlight in what never seemed to be the right way, was just a lost part of the day—it was anything but that.  By his example, those around him learned that things break in life, but if you have the right tool and know how to use the tool, any problem can be fixed, no matter the circumstance.  He also insisted that when a job was done that you put your tools away and clean up so that you were ready for what may come next—there was no compromise on this point…ever.  While these rules clearly applied to the broken dishwasher or the car in need of new brakes—his rules and these moments were actually life lessons.

He enjoyed playing pool—9 ball was his game.  He liked to fish and work in the garden.  He perfected his Kentucky blue grass lawn and hated crab grass.  He enjoyed a good cigar and loved to just sit and talk to anyone who would listen.  He loved seafood and trying new things.  He was a devout Eagles fan.  He loved his dog, Hunter.  He could never change the channel if Rocky was on, and yes he cried every time he watched it.  He was always thinking and always working on a project.  He loved to laugh and make others laugh.  He enjoyed practical jokes at your expense and would needle and provoke you until he got the reaction he wanted.

He was selfless and helped anyone in need.  If you needed advice, he guided.  If you needed support, he gave his shoulder.  If something broke, he found a way to fix it.  If you needed a place to stay, he opened his doors.  If you were lost, he said follow me.  If you were in need, he would give you the shirt off his back.

A significant portion of his heart was devoted to his daughter, Lisa and the love of his life, Cathy both of whom left us too early.  After their passing, he spent some healing time on a sailboat in Key West.  He slept in, fished in the afternoon, cooked dinner in the evening, and searched the stars at night.  He attempted to learn how to relax and slow his pace.  He chased adventure and often talked about searching for “lost treasure.”  While it seemed from an outside appearance that he adopted the life of a pirate, on the inside he was a man with a broken heart searching for a treasure that he lost.

On September 10, 2020, he was reunited with Cathy and Lisa and finally found his lost treasure.  Although this great man left this world, his influence and legacy is eternal.
