Winifred C. Horan

January 24, 1938 — February 7, 2026

Winifred C. Horan, born on January 24, 1938, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2026.

Winifred was raised on Cedar Avenue in West Philadelphia, in a home defined by warmth, stability, and deep love. Her parents created a nurturing environment where faith, respect, and care for one another were everyday realities, not just ideals. Together with her siblings, Winifred grew up surrounded by encouragement, shared responsibilities, and the simple joys of family life—meals together, conversations that lingered, and traditions that shaped a strong sense of belonging.

Beyond her immediate household, family life extended to aunts, uncles, and cousins were a constant and welcome presence, filling her childhood with laughter, guidance, and connection. Holidays, milestones, and ordinary days alike were shared experiences, reinforcing the importance of family and community. This close-knit network instilled in Winifred enduring values of loyalty, generosity, and compassion, forming the foundation of who she would become and the way she continues to relate to others.

Winifred lived a lifelong commitment to education, serving both as a dedicated teacher and administrator, leaving an indelible mark on the many students and families she encountered throughout her esteemed career. Education and nurturing were hallmarks of her character. Winifred was deeply respected within her community for her unwavering dedication to shaping young minds and for her commitment to her students’ futures.

Winifred loved flowers, nature, animals, particularly dogs. She cherished her golden retrievers, with a special fondness for Fibonacci, whose name reflected her deeper appreciation for both dogs and mathematics.

Winifred is preceded in death by her loving parents William and Winifred Horan who instilled in her values of compassion, faith, and perseverance and by her beloved siblings: Dolores E. McCaughan, Theresa M. Horan, and William P. Horan. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews—Diane, Jack, Maureen, Kathleen, Dan, Helene, Bill, Peggy, and Michael—along with many grand nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of love and education.

Relatives and friends are invited to Winifred's funeral mass on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:30 AM St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA followed by her interment at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
