Winifred Dankel Carver

Winifred Dankel Carver, a former kindergarten teacher of West Chester, PA, and Brewster, Cape Cod, died on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the age of 87. She is survived by a loving husband of 54 years, Donald; a daughter, Elizabeth (Paul Fulmer); a son, Alexander (Elise Ackermann); two grandsons, Daniel and Carver Fulmer; and a granddaughter, Elixandra Windon Carver.

Born in Topton, PA, the daughter of Fred and Eva Dankel, “Winnie” graduated from the St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Peekskill, NY, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Temple University, where she first met Don.

Throughout her life, Winnie’s artistic gifts were prominent in her teaching of art and music, as well as in her paintings and drawings, interior design, and legendary handwritten letters to family and friends.  Generous of spirit, she devoted much of her time and resources to causes, charities, and cultural pursuits, she deeply believed in.

For six months every year, she was the biggest Phillies “Phan” around, “pheverishly” supporting the ball club whether they won or lost 100 games.

For fifty summers, she vacationed on the bay on her beloved Cape Cod—Winnie’s version of heaven on earth. Her family looks forward to meeting her there again at sunset.
