William R. Snell, Jr., 97, of West Brandywine, PA, passed away December 4, 2021.
Born August 16, 1924 in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late William R., Sr., and Vida Viola (nee Bates) Snell.
He was a 1944 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York and served as 2nd Mate and navigator on several Liberty Ship armed cargo vessels. By the end of his service he had risen to a Lt(jg) USNR. He served the duration of the war in the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic on convoy duty completing many dangerous crossings.
After leaving the service he became the Purchasing Director at Foote Mineral company in Exton, PA, retiring in 1986.
William was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (nee Elkins) Snell; loving father of Stephen, Kent and Paul Snell; and adoring grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at a later date.
