W. Peter Silcox

W. Peter Silcox, age 91, of Devon, PA, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, with his family by his side. Born in Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada on May 27, 1935, he was the son of the late George M. and Frances M. (nee Merrifield) Silcox.

Peter was the beloved husband of the late Janet K. (nee Phillips) Silcox; loving father of Tara Pickard, Shawn Silcox Corr (Robert), and Erin Leidich (Dave); caring grandfather of Hallie Wagner (Graham), Jake Pickard (Elizabeth), Drew Pickard, Luke Pickard, Caroline Corr, Patrick Corr, Maisie Leidich, and Cate Leidich; dear brother of Graham Silcox (Jane).

W. Peter Silcox (Pete) grew up in a small rural town in Canada, the proud son of the Mayor and owner of the local hardware store. Pete especially enjoyed summers spent with family and friends at the family cottage in Rondeau Park on Lake Erie. He went on to attend Albion College, where he met his beloved wife, Janet. Pete was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, where he also served as Vice President.

After graduating, Pete built a long and successful career with Travelers Insurance. His personable nature, strong work ethic, and unwavering dedication to his profession served him well throughout his career. He managed Travelers offices in Minneapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia, moving his family to each location and making lifelong friendships along the way.

Pete and Janet made their home in Devon, Pennsylvania, for 43 years. They were active members of Wayne Presbyterian Church, where Pete served as a deacon, participated in the investment club, and enjoyed being part of the inaugural Second Saturday Group. Pete was also a member of Aronimink Country Club.

Throughout his life, Pete was dedicated to staying active and taking care of himself. He loved golf and treasured the time he spent on the course. He was especially proud of his two holes-in-one.

Above all, Pete loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Janet, whom he missed every day following her passing in 2017. He was the original girl dad to his three daughters, Tara, Shawn, and Erin, and a proud Papa to his eight grandchildren.

Pete treasured time spent together as a family, whether vacationing in Avalon, celebrating holidays, setting off fireworks over Memorial Day weekend, or simply enjoying one another’s company at home. He loved having a house full of family and friends, and for Pete, there was no greater joy than having the people he loved close by.

Pete will be remembered for his humor, sense of style, a gin martini, love of current events, his devotion to his family, and the genuine joy he found in being surrounded by the people he loved. His family will carry those memories—and his love—with them always.

Relatives and friends are invited to Pete’s Memorial Service on Monday, October 26 at 5:00pm at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087. Interment Private.
