On Friday, November 26, 2021, Umberto Teseo, loving husband and father of two children, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 84.
Umberto was born on March 29, 1937, in Giuliano Teatino, Chieti, Italy to Amedeo Nicola and Bambina Teseo [Ghionni]. He immigrated to the United States aboard the SS Conte Biancamano and arrived in New York on February 3, 1956. On July 31, 1960, he married his beautiful bride, Liliana DeFelice, in Canosa, Sannita. They raised two daughters, Patrizia (Fitzgerald) and Marilu (Kelly) in Morton, PA.
As a master tailor for over 50 years, working in some of the Philadelphia area’s finest men’s clothing stores, Umberto made sure that hundreds of local television personalities, medical professionals, and top lawyers in the area had clothing with the perfect fit. Umberto enjoyed being a member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy for many years where he and his wife enjoyed sharing the culture, wine, and food of Italy. He and his wife were dedicated parishioners at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, and they also enjoyed attending many shows and entertainment excursions with their friends. They also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises together. He had a passion for sports and enjoyed watching Italian soccer on tv. He was a great conversationalist who would make a friend no matter where he might be. A favorite memory of his occurred during the many years he worked part-time as a bartender at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE, when he befriended then Governor, Pierre S. du Pont. Mr. du Pont sent a wonderful note to Umberto, saying it was pleasure to have “so loyal and patriotic a friend”. Umberto was very proud to be a citizen of the United States of America. He always had time to help those who asked, especially his family. Umberto was always so very proud of his family and never hesitated to brag about them.
Umberto was preceded in death by his father, Amedeo Nicola, his mother, Bambina, his brother, Renato and his sister Rosella [Pinto]. He is survived by his wife, Liliana, his two daughters, Patrizia (Mark Fitzgerald) and their children Mark, Jr., Madison and great granddaughter Lilyahna, and Marilu (John Kelly), and their children, Julia and John, Jr. and his nephews, Amedeo Teseo and Ronald Pinto, along with several cousins.
