Sylvia Rainer

June 27, 1945 — November 14, 2021

Sylvia A. Rainer (nee DeLuca), age 76, of Glenolden, PA, passed away on November 14, 2021. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Nicolaus and Fannie DeLuca (nee Dalessandro).

Sylvia is survived by her loving children William Rainer (Katina), Nicole Leypoldt (Brian) and Robert Rainer; her grandpuppies Gus and Lily; her sister Donna Mollichella (Phillip), and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sylvia was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grade School in Collingdale, PA and a 1963 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, PA.  Sylvia retired in 2014 after a long career at the Delaware County Courthouse in Media, most recently as the Office Manager for the County Treasury.

Sylvia was a devoted mother and avid traveler. She shared her passion for travel with her children and visited many countries throughout Europe. She also traveled throughout the United States including Hawaii and recently brought her entire family there to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation. She spent many summers in Ocean City, NJ and loved sharing her vacation home with friends and family, one time hosting a record breaking 23 people over a long July 4th holiday weekend.

Sylvia loved her home, her neighborhood, and her neighbors. She would gather with her neighbors, including her sister, to enjoy tea and snacks every single day. Everyone and anyone was invited to the daily tea party becoming a well known neighborhood tradition that lasted well over 50 years, right up until her final days.

Sylvia enjoyed playing cards, following the Phillies and the Eagles, dancing with the Philadelphia Mummers on New Year's Day, and spending time with her family and friends. Sylvia loved to laugh and her always positive attitude and bright spirit will have a lasting impact on all the people that were around her. She was always a force for good and maintained that positivity right to the very end. She was the absolute best listener and was a sounding board for untold numbers of people. She was always available for anyone who needed to be heard and not judged. She was wise beyond her years and for friends and family.  It will have been truly an honor to have known her. Her incredible light will shine on through her children and the people she positively impacted.
