Susan Marie Maheras (Foster), affectionately known as Sue, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on March 24, 1959, Sue lived a life characterized by humor, quick wit, strong personality and compassion that touched the lives of many around her.
Sue dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to the Upper Darby School District, where she was known for her outgoing and outspoken personality. Her colleagues and students alike were drawn to her, fostering deep connections that extended beyond work.
A proud graduate of Upper Darby High School and Delaware County Community College, Sue's love for her family, friends, and commitment to her neighbors defined much of her life's work. Outside of her work, she was also celebrated for her cooking skills. Sue had a particular talent for cooking comfort foods that brought friends and family together. Each holiday season, she baked Christmas cookies, a tradition that created lasting memories for all who were fortunate enough to share in her baked goods.
Sue was particularly close to her best friend, Ginny (predeceased), who played an important role in her life, especially in helping her raise her beloved son Adam, who was Sue’s proudest achievement. Family was central to Sue’s life; she is survived by her son, Adam Barrett, and his wife Krista, her cherished granddaughter, Evelyn Regina, her sister Cyndi Lane and her husband Bill, as well as her brother John Gallagher and his wife Mary. Her nieces and nephews Tracy, Brett, Erin, Shannon, Johnny, and great nephew Oliver. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Miller, whose love undoubtedly guided Sue throughout her life.
Sue’s legacy will live on, not only in the hearts of her family, but also in the memories of her many friends, who will remember her as someone who was always there to lend a hand, an ear, or offer unsolicited advice.
