Steven “Zang” Zangari, 66, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 13, 1959, in Philadelphia, PA, Steve was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Deloris (née Delgoleto) Zangari.
Steven is survived by his son Steven Zangari (Chelsea); Siblings, Mary Eve Zangari (Bill Mirenda), JoAnne Kaspar (Ed), Joseph Zangari (Sherry), and David Zangari (Shelly); Uncle, John Zangari (Irene); Girlfriend, Bernadette Porreca; Former wife Daneen Young; And many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Zangari.
An athlete throughout his youth, Steve excelled in both baseball and football. On the gridiron, he played multiple positions — linebacker, fullback, and even punter — while on the baseball diamond, his natural athleticism and talent as a catcher drew the attention of professional scouts including the Cincinnati Reds. Steve’s competitive spirit carried through his entire life, whether he was playing golf, horseshoes, darts, pool, or card games he almost always seemed to win.
Steve graduated in 1977 from Haverford High School and went on to attend ATC auto mechanic school in Exton, PA. Steve began developing the skills that would become both his profession and his passion. Early in his career, Steve worked as a groundsman and mechanic for Donnelly Tree Service in Upper Darby, PA. Steve honed his skills often times repairing trucks and equipment along with multiple other duties.
In 1995, Steve moved to Lehigh Acres, FL where he fulfilled a lifelong dream of opening his own auto repair business. Running his shop brought him great pride — Steve’s favorite part of being an auto mechanic was rebuilding engines. Steve took care of his customers with honesty and skill.
After returning to West Chester, PA in 2002, Steve joined Mardinly Enterprises, where he worked as an auto technician with dedication and distinction until 2020. Known for his unmatched expertise, especially in rebuilding engines, Steve took on the most difficult jobs with enthusiasm. He rarely missed a day of work and took great satisfaction in doing what he loved every single day.
Steve’s pride and joy were his 1965 Buick Riveria and 1969 Buick Skylark which he restored and brought to life himself. Steve proudly showed off his cars at local car shows on the weekends and took many joy rides in his antique cars.
Besides his professional career, Steve found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved weekends spent exploring flea markets, discovering hidden treasures, restoring old antique trinkets and fixing older cars as a hobby. A collector at heart, Steve took pride in his collections of knives, coins and marbles of which each piece held a story or memory. Steve enjoyed keeping his yard and home immaculate. Children always held a special place in his heart — their laughter brought him genuine joy as Steve had a natural ability to make them feel loved and seen.
Steve will be remembered for his big heart, humor and unforgettable, contagious booming laugh. Steve had steady hands that could fix anything and an even steadier spirit that lifted those around him. Steve’s personality will leave a lasting impression on all who has had the privilege of knowing him. Though he has left this world too young, the love, lessons, and laughter he shared will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
