Bryn Mawr, PA

Stephen Craig Jones, 74, of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026. Born on May 29, 1951, in Culver City, California, Stephen lived a life defined by dedication to his family, his profession, and the principles he believed in.

Steve spent his early years in Southern California before building a distinguished legal career that took him to Washington DC with Jones Day and later to the Philadelphia region with Greenberg Traurig and Post & Schell. An attorney specializing in environmental law, Steve was an early and respected voice in the field. Over the course of his career he advised governments, corporations, and nonprofit organizations on complex regulatory matters involving natural resources, air and water protection, biodiversity, climate change, waste management, and land use. He was deeply committed to his clients, many of whom he served for more than four decades and took great pride in mentoring younger attorneys entering the profession.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve will be remembered most for his unwavering devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and caring grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mirna McDonald; his children, Brian Jones (Iliana Chang) and their children, Mia and Kailey, and Kelsey (Jon) Adamec and their children, Dylan and Cameron. He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Jones, who is survived by his children, Madison and Grayson. Steve also shared meaningful relationships with his stepchildren and stepgrandchild. He is survived by Andrew (Denisa) McDonald and their child, Kai, as well as Thomas McDonald (Zac Parker). He is also survived by his siblings, Marilyn Geller, Kathy Arkle, and Bill Jones, and was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Newton Jones and JoAnn (Vernon) Jones.

Steve was a steady and dependable presence, someone who could always be counted on for thoughtful guidance and steady support. He listened carefully, offered wisdom when needed, and never hesitated to be there for those he loved. He was not always outwardly expressive, but his care and commitment were deeply felt and never in doubt.

In his personal time, Steve found joy in giving back to his community, volunteering with organizations such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Providence Animal Shelter. Even in retirement, he remained active, tending to his yard, enjoying movies and investigative television shows, and indulging his well-known love of ice cream.

Steve’s legacy is one of integrity, service, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
