Shirley Ann Bellissimo (nee Gore), age 91, of Lansdowne, PA, passed away on May 24, 2026. Born in East Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony John and Claire Gore (nee Francis).
As the proprietor of Bellissimo’s, her own seamstress business, Shirley was both an artist and a craftswoman. She transformed threads and fabric into works of art that spoke to her meticulous nature and her innate sense of style. Her needlework was not simply a vocation; it was an embodiment of her passion and dedication. Among her proudest accomplishments was the creation of Stocking Day at Christmas, a cherished family tradition in which she would fill a tremendous stocking with gifts for her children and later grandchildren, calling out each name with anticipation and joy. This beloved custom extended warmly to her grandchildren, touching generation after generation with its spirit of togetherness and celebration.
In the summer of 1976, during the nation’s Bicentennial, Shirley’s talents were called upon in a community endeavor that underscored her patriotic fabric. She meticulously sewed costumes for the employees of the Ben Franklin Post Office in Philadelphia, an act that echoed her commitment to both craft and community.
Shirley’s life was marked by constant movement and change, necessitated by her husband’s career in the Navy. Through each relocation, she remained the steadfast heart and orderly anchor of the family home, nurturing a sanctuary of warmth and stability amid shifting tides. Her love for her family was immeasurable—she was an avid reader who found solace and joy in books, but her greatest delight was always her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness.
Her soul found special comfort in the serene beauty of the Nubble Lighthouse in Maine, which she considered her favorite place. It was a beacon of peace and reflection, mirroring the steady light she provided in the lives of those she loved.
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Bellissimo; loving mother of Kevin Bellissimo, Brenda Kemp, and Vincent Bellissimo (Tiger), and the late Wayne Bellissimo; adoring grandmother of Scott, Justin, and Brandon Kemp, Courtney (Taber), Michele (Hendrick), Vincent, Katherine, Alex, Randy, Nick, Joe, and the late Bridget Bellissimo; caring sister of David, William, Kenneth Gore, Kathleen Gore Cadden, and the late John, Edward Gore, and Maurene Gore Keough. Also survived by 18 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with family and friends.
