Scott Mahoney

August 29, 1973 — May 18, 2021

Scott D. (Slip) Mahoney, age 47, of Highland Park, PA passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, surrounded by family. He was Superintendent and Chief of the Delaware County Park Police.

Scott is survived by his wonderful wife, Randi Mahoney (nee Davis), his four amazing children  Erin (fiancé Michael Jayyusi), Shamus, Rylie, and Kaylee, and his mother Jean Mahoney (nee McCarthy). He was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Mahoney.  He also leaves behind his sister Kelly, his in-laws Shelly and Mike Davis, sisters-in-law Jamie (Bill Colwell) and Nicole (TJ Marrical), and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family members. Scott was such a proud family man and the most amazing, hard-working father. With all of his great accomplishments in life, his family was the greatest and meant the most to him.

Scott attended St. Laurence School, Beverly Hills Middle School, and Upper Darby High School where he made life-long friends. From there, he went on to the Police Academy and also received multiple higher education certificates in law enforcement. In 1992, Scott began his career as a Patrolman for the Delaware County Park Police. Over the years, he rose through the ranks until being officially sworn in as Chief of the Delaware County Park Police in 2019.  He also worked as a part-time patrolman for multiple departments in Delaware County including Millbourne, Colwyn, Clifton Heights and Aldan. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Upper Darby and founding member of the Delaware County Police Emerald Society. His amazing partners and fellow officers throughout the years have become family and are a true brotherhood. He received many awards related to criminal justice, community service, and music. He was always musically inclined and played drums for a jazz band in his free time. He also loved boxing and spending time at the boxing gym.

If you were lucky enough to know Scott then you know he was a selfless man with an electric smile and a heart of pure gold. A man who was a true hero to so many. He was a man of compassion, kindness, dedication and a real brother to all who knew him.  As intimidating as he could look, he truly was a giant teddy bear and protector of everyone he loved.
