Samuel "Sammy" Redding, a cherished resident of the Don Guanella Community, passed away on April 22, 2026. Born on July 12, 1961, Sammy lived a life filled with joy and passion, embracing the things that brought him happiness with infectious enthusiasm.
Sammy’s love for music, dancing, books, and magazines painted a vibrant picture of a man who delighted in the simple pleasures of life along with his love for old TV shows and movies. He also worked at the workshop at Our Lady of Fatima of which he retired from last year. His Don Guanella family gave him a wonderful Retirement Party. It was a great time of celebration! Perhaps most endearing was his particular fondness for the ladies, a testament to his warm and genuine spirit that touched many hearts throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel A. Mays and Maude P. (nee Hutt) Redding, and his sister, Marcella Jones. Their memory remains a guiding light in the story of his life.
Sammy is survived by his devoted siblings: William Redding, Jr., Joan Jones, Susan Mayo, Jean Walker, Charlotte Mays, and Sandra Redding. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, whose lives he influenced profoundly. In addition, his beloved family at Don Guanella stands as a testament to the bonds of care and companionship that shaped his later years.
Friends and family are invited to honor Sammy’s memory with a viewing on April 30, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service starting at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Providence Village Chapel, located at 686 Old Marple Rd, Springfield, PA 19064. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made in Sammy’s name to The Communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence, 20 E. Cleveland Ave, Norwood, PA 19074.
As we remember Sammy, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by laughter, music, and a loving heart. His spirit will continue to resonate within the halls of his community and the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
