A resident of Newtown Square, PA, formerly of Secane, PA, Ruth passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2018 with her family by her side.
Born at home in Philadelphia on July 24, 1925, she was the second daughter of the late Richard and Marguerite (nee Stewart) Thompson.
She accepted Christ publicly in church at the age of 12.
Ruth attended John Bartram High School, was the 11th grade Class President, served on School Court, and was a cheerleader for 3 years.
Ruth was a Camp Fire Girl and went on to be a Camp Fire Leader at the age of 18.
She taught Sunday school at age 19 after completing the teacher's training course required at her church.
Her first class was middle school aged girls and then she taught high school girls for 12 years.
After Ruth joined Springfield Baptist Church, she was a high school Sunday school teacher.
Eventually, Ruth taught the Women's Friendship
Class.
Ruth married Chester Kochersperger in May 1946, after he returned home from the War in Europe the previous August 1945. She and Chester raised three children, with Ruth always being actively involved in their activities serving as Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother too! Ruth's most important role was to her family and served faithfully as a family caregiver for many of her loved ones.
Ruth started the Christmas Tea for the ABW - American Baptist Women's -
organization, securing speakers for the various functions, started the "Action News" for ABW, and served as the spiritual leader of ABW for many years.
Ruth served on the Christian Ed Board and was active in the Friendship Class at her church.
Besides these many activities, Ruth found time to attend night school for two years at the Philadelphia College of Bible.
With each activity Ruth performed, and there were many, Ruth did them all to honor God during her lifetime.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Chester Kochersperger, the loving mother of Richard (Jean), Jane Pennington (Mitch), and Stephen (Patricia).
She is the dear grandmother of Kenneth, Kevin, Kati, Kory, Kyle, Athena, Timothy, Krista, and Jamie, and proud great-grandmother of 10 great-grandchildren.
Ruth is predeceased by her grandson, Stephen and her sister, Elizabeth McCunny.
Services and interment are private.
