Roberta V. Schaum

September 27, 1940 — February 1, 2023

West Chester

Roberta V. Schaum (née Vogel), Bobbie, age 82, of West Chester, PA, passed peacefully on February 1, 2023.

Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Orabelle H. Vogel.

A graduate of Upper Darby High School.  Bobbie was the beloved mother of her two children, Andrew Schaum, (Jennifer) and Virginia Alger, (J.C.); the adoring grandmother of Casey Schaum, Jake and Max Alger; and younger sister to Brenda Vogel and the late John A. Vogel, Jr.

Bobbie was a career woman, before there really was such a thing.  She worked in human resources for the Franklin Mint, QVC, and then SAP.  Bobbie was the proud provider for her children and supported their pursuits fully and completely, never missing a hockey game or swim meet through the years.  She had a house built and created a home for raising her family in West Goshen, retiring to Westtown in her later years.  In both locations, she developed special friendships with her neighbors.  An avid reader and passionate sports fan, she especially enjoyed her beloved Philadelphia Phillies. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Brandywine Battlefield.

Diagnosed with multiple myeloma late in 2021, she fought valiantly to maintain her independence.  A strong German woman up until the very end, she taught all those in her life how to be responsible individuals.  She will be missed dearly, but her legacy will live on and thrive through her children and grandchildren.

Bobbie wished to be cremated and requested there be no funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates, www.brandywinebattlefield.org/donate/
