Roberta A. "Bobbie" Basile

November 29, 1939 — July 16, 2025

Roberta Ann Basile (nee Godber), Glen Mills, Pa. passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 16, 2025 at the age of 85. Born on November 29, 1939 in Bryn Mawr, PA, she is preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and her two brothers, Bud Godber and Tom Godber (Ellen). She is survived by her two children, Doug Basile, husband of Kat (McCarthy) Basile and Beth Basile Guistwhite, wife of Jason (Guistwhite) and her six (6) cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Kelly, Max, Christine, Nikki and Jimmy who always brought her immeasurable joy.

Raised in Gladwyne, PA, Bobbie was an avid athlete who was elected "Best Female Athlete" in her senior class at Lower Merion High School. She then played field hockey and lacrosse, as Captain of both teams, for four (4) years at West Chester University where she was awarded Hall of Fame All American in both sports. Bobbie graduated with a degree in physical education and started her teaching career at Welsh Valley Junior High where she met her husband, Peter. Once married, Bobbie put aside her teaching career to raise their two children in Broomall where she enjoyed penny poker nights with all of her neighbors, heading to the casinos with the girls and going shopping during snow storms.

After her husband suddenly passed in 1990, Bobbie returned to her love of teaching and taught physical education at Sacred Heart School in Havertown then at St. Pius in Broomall. She taught at St. Pius for almost 20 years where she retired. Bobbie was most content in her “happy place,”…Avalon, NJ, where she spent almost 60 summers making memories with her family and friends. She loved watching her grandchildren play on the beach, going to their sports games at night then taking them to Springers Homemade Ice Cream. Her favorite times and traditions were always “beach related,” especially her 4th of July barbecues, seafood fests and our annual Ocean City Boardwalk “rides and treats” nights. We love how Bobbie instilled a love for the beach within all of us and especially our children.

Bobbie will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind person who will truly be missed. She made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her and there's no doubt that her unique spirit will be missed. As we join together to celebrate Bobbie’s life, we ask that you wear something bright and cheerful to the funeral mass in her honor.
