Robert Erkie Salyer Jr.

Robert E. Salyer Jr., age 86, of Norwood, PA, passed away on Wednesday July 3rd, 2024. 

Robert was the beloved husband of the late Madeleine Salyer (nee Fusco); loving father of Elizabeth Salyer, Regina Salyer and Jennifer Salyer; devoted grandfather of Alessandra Traini, and proud great-grandfather of Leonardo Leidy and Aurora Leidy. He is also survived by his sister Doris Whitt and multiple generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robert Erkie Salyer, Sr. and Della Salyer (nee Henegar); brothers- George Roderick Salyer, Kermit Wakefield Salyer, Curtis Wakefield Salyer, and Williard Henegar; and sisters Bannie Violeta Fletcher (nee Salyer), Thelma Lucille Ratliff (nee Salyer), Lee Etta Ruth Salyer, Anna M. Ybarra, Okla Gragg, and Myrtle Woodson.

Born in Harlan, Kentucky and raised in LaFollette, Tennessee, Robert (known as “Bob” or “R.E.”) was a kind and caring man who shared numerous meals with his many adored dogs over the years. He tried out for several pro ball teams, including the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates. He served honorably in the United States Army as an advanced team scout and sniper during the Vietnam War. He spent much of his career in the air freight industry, and after “retirement”, worked at Home Depot. 

He loved being surrounded by his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be private.
