Robert N. Martineau

Robert (Bob) N. Martineau passed away July 10, 2022, in West Chester, PA at the age of 85. His wife of 63 years, Susan G. Martineau, was by his side.

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 10, 1936, son of the late Harold Edward Martineau and Helen Granger Martineau. He was active in sports at both Hyde Park HS and in college. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1958 with a BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering.

He married Susan (Sue) in 1959 and started his career in specialty steel production at Crucible Steel in Syracuse, NY. As he rose through management positions, his work took him and his family to various companies and locations in Sorel, Quebec, the Philadelphia area, Utica, NY and finally Darlington, SC. Later in his career, he helped to create a start-up micro mill in Darlington, SC producing specialty alloys. Its continued success was a source of satisfaction for him. His ability and talent were respected by the industry. As he often remarked, "steel is in my blood."

Bob enjoyed his work in steel production and made many lifelong friends in the industry. In retirement, he and Sue were avid travelers, sailors, and enjoyed golf and bridge together with friends. His efforts in photography left us with a legacy of memories.

Friends remember him as a man who deeply loved his wife and family and who was always ready with a smile and a greeting to others. Ever young at heart, he was a favorite with his children's friends dishing out advice, ribbings, and guidance- both solicited and not. He strongly believed in and championed for fair treatment of those around him. Above all, he took joy in life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Martineau, grandson Steven Martineau, and son-in-law John Green. Sharing his loss are his loving wife, Sue, daughters Karen Jones (Bill) and Michelle Green, son David Martineau (Michelle) and beloved grandchildren, Eric Martineau (Lexi) and Kendall Green, and great-grandchildren, Mason and Desmond Martineau.
