Robert Louis Walter, 98, of Delaware County, PA passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023 from natural causes. Family and friends will miss Bob and remember him dearly as an exceptional gentleman and family man. He is survived by his beloved wife Charme; his children Ann and David; their spouses Wayne and Barbara; and grandchildren Kathryn and Elaina.
Bob grew up in Columbus OH, he began his post-secondary education in the Army and fought as an infantry rifleman in WWII. After honorable discharge he went on to earn a doctorate in Education and became the youngest superintendent of schools in suburban Cincinnati.
Bob continued his career as a professor of education at Temple University in Philadelphia where he went on to design, negotiate, and lead an education mission for the US military encompassing all European bases. As head of the mission, he carried a General’s rank, employed numerous educators and staff, and was responsible for educating thousands of service people. Bob later resumed his duties as professor at Temple University in Philadelphia where he was a published author and awarded the Great Teacher Award with his name inscribed there in granite.
Bob loved camping with his family and sailing his sunfish. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed having fun with family and friends. Bob served as a deacon at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church; he was a member of the board at the Timothy School in Berwyn; and volunteered for reading for the blind.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, October, 20, at 11:00 AM, for both Charme and Robert at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org) would be greatly appreciated.
