Robert E. Iovacchini, age 78, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully at home, on October 16, 2019, with his family by his side.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Vincent J. and Jeanne M. (nee Grandaliano) Iovacchini.
Robert was the beloved husband of Gayle M. (nee McDonough) Iovacchini; the loving father of Robert E. Iovacchini, Jr., (Donna), Gaye L. D’Ottaviano, Lisa Iovacchini-Buoni (Robert), Vince M. Iovacchini (Magda) and the late Beatrice L. Colangelo (Tony). He was the proud grandfather of Jaimie, Matthew, Stephanie, Emily, Olivia, Anthony, Jakob, Maya, David and Paul. He is predeceased by his brother, Vincent J. Iovacchini, Jr. Robert is also survived by his many cousins.
Robert was a graduate of Upper Darby High School. Shortly after graduation, he married the woman of his dreams, and they started a family. Earlier this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For those 60 years, his primary concern was the welfare of his family. He was the protector and provider (and handyman) and was mentor and role model to his children and grandchildren.
At the age of 18, his first job found him at the David Rittenhouse Laboratories of the University of Pennsylvania, where he started as a computer operator. He taught himself several computer programming languages and became a highly respected systems programmer. The University of Pennsylvania Computer Department was eventually converted into a for-profit Computer Services company, the Uni-Coll Corporation, where he would become a Senior Executive. He worked in the Computer Services Industry for almost 50 years before retiring at the age of 66.
He enjoyed taking care of the house, the yard and the pool. He took great pride in his vegetable garden. In addition, he liked following the local sports teams on TV, or catching one of his favorite movies. However, what he enjoyed the most was having his children and grandchildren come over to the house to join him and Gayle around the pool, or on the patio, or watching a game.
Family and friends are invited to his Viewing, Friday, October 25, 2019, 8:30 – 10:00 AM at the Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, 610-353-6300, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
