Robert V. "Bob" DeLiberato

Robert V. "Bob" DeLiberato, son of the late Vincent Carmine and Ida (Giordano) DeLiberato, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. He was a devoted husband and father, and a deeply spiritual child of God. In addition to his wife Tina, he was respected and adored by his son Robert, his niece Maria, his nephew Jeff, and his brother, Vin.

Bob attended St. Joseph’s Prep and St. Joseph’s University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1976 with a degree in mathematics. He attained the designation of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) in 1988, the highest designation for a professional actuary.

Bob worked as a mathematician for the United States government at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He worked as an actuary at the Insurance Company of North America (INA) for six years, where he became Chief Actuary for Automobile Insurance. When INA merged with Connecticut General to form CIGNA, he continued to work for CIGNA for five more years and was appointed Director of Financial Planning.

In 1987, he left CIGNA to work for Reliance Insurance where he was hired as Vice President and Chief Actuary for the Large Accounts Division. In 1995, he was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Large Accounts Division. He held that position until 2001 when Reliance was absorbed by Travelers Insurance.

In 2001, he retired from the insurance industry to begin a job as a college professor. He worked as an adjunct professor at Delaware County Community College from 2001-2005, where he was awarded the Teacher of the Year designation for distinguished teaching in 2005.

In 2005, he was recruited by his alma mater, Saint Joseph’s University (SJU), to serve as Actuarial Executive in Residence and to create an actuarial science major in the College of Arts and Sciences. During his 13- year tenure at SJU, the actuarial science program grew to an enrollment of nearly 100 students. He formed and served as Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board for 13 years, recruiting his professional colleagues to provide internship and employment opportunities for his students. As a professor, he touched the lives of many students, both in the classroom and serving as a mentor, helping them pass actuarial exams and begin meaningful careers. He retired in 2018, at the age of 63, after open-heart surgery.

Along the way, during his youth, Bob tried to become a professional musician. His career was short-lived but exciting. Playing music with his son was one of his greatest pleasures in life. He always felt that the most important ‘job’ he held was being a father to Robert.

Bob is survived by his wife, Tina, his son Robert, his brother, Vince, his niece Maria, and his nephew Jeff.
