Robert E. “Bob” Curran, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at home in Newtown Square at the age of 84. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, generosity of spirit, and a life rooted in love, family, and service to others.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and residing most of his life in Havertown, Bob was the son of the late Thomas and May (née Horgan) Curran. He was immensely proud of his Irish heritage, a source of identity and joy throughout his life. Bob wore his Claddagh ring with pride—a meaningful symbol of love, loyalty, and friendship that perfectly reflected who he was. His heritage was not just something he claimed, but something he lived through his values, his warmth, and his deep sense of family. Often, Bob summed up his approach to life with his favorite and most enduring piece of advice, offered simply and sincerely: “Be good.” It was more than a saying—it was how he lived every day.
Bob dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to PECO, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. He took great pride in his work and earned the respect of colleagues and supervisors alike, not through recognition or praise, but through teamwork, consistency, integrity, and dependability.
Outside of work, Bob found joy in staying active and being useful to others. He generously shared his time as an ice hockey coach and a bus driver, roles through which he quietly influenced young lives with patience, encouragement, and steady guidance. At home, he was the family’s trusted lawn expert, taking great pride in a perfectly kept yard and always ready with advice or a helping hand. Perhaps most memorably, Bob was a true “dog whisperer”—instantly beloved by every dog he met and famously known for always having a treat at the ready. These simple joys reflected Bob’s gentle nature and the care he showed so freely to everyone around him.
Above all else, Bob was a family man. He was the beloved husband of Katherine “Pat” (née Kelly) Curran, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
Bob was a loving father to Robert E. Curran, Jr. (Kelly); Patricia Ann Curran (the late James Kenney); David J. Curran (Jodi); and Donald J. Curran (Carolyn). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to James J. Kenney (Taylor), Caitlyn Kenney, Jake Kenney, Luke Kenney, Samantha Croall (Cody), Sara Curran, Julia Curran, John D. Curran, and Justin A. Curran, and a joyful great-grandfather to Finnegan J. and Reilly Marie, who brought him immense happiness.
He is also survived by his dear sister, Helen Curran Town (Fred), as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his siblings Thomas J. Curran, Jr., Mary Leighton, Daniel J. Curran, Eleanor Gorman, Margaret Urban, Frances Eaby, Catherine Smoyer, and John W. Curran.
Bob will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet humor, his steady presence, and the love he showed so easily to family, friends, and animals alike. His gentle reminder to “be good”—and the values it represented—will continue to guide and comfort all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Bob’s life during a visitation on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 PM at Donohue. Interment will be private.
