Richard M. Rex

Richard “Dick” Middleton Rex, 90, of Media, PA, passed away January 14, 2023.

Born August 24, 1932 in Norwood, PA he was a son of the late Robert Roy and Marjorie (nee Bare) Rex.

Dick served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Eritrea (Ethiopia), in East Africa. It was here that he met Graziella Marraffa, the woman who would become his wife. They were married in the Cathedral in Asmara, and shortly afterwards, the couple moved to the United States. 

Dick worked for Bell Telephone of Pa until he took an early retirement at age 50. He then worked as a traveling contractor for Unix and other companies. His contract positions sent Richard and Graziella to Rome and Puerto Rico for lengthy stays in each location. He was fluent in both Spanish and Italian.

Dick's interests included antique toy train and toy car collecting and trading, antique car shows, traveling to areas in the United States to see old locomotives, and extensive traveling in the US, Canada and Europe. He and his wife's family traveled together by car through Italy, France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslvia. Dick and Graziella also traveled with their close friends through parts of Europe.

He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He will be very much missed by those who were close to him.

Richard was the beloved husband of the late Graziella (nee Marraffa) Rex; loving father of Franca Rex, Stephen Rex, and Michael Rex; adoring pop-pop of Nicole Doyle (Jeffrey), Rick Donahue (Ashley Marciano), Jamie Page, Eric Rex, Rachel Rex, and Michelle McNamee (James); dear great-grandfather of Richard Frazer, Samuel Frazer, Albanie Doyle, Everly Doyle, and Isla Donahue. He was predeceased by his siblings: Doris (nee Rex) Schutte, Robert Rex, and Anne (nee Rex) Goldsborough.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, January 20, 2023 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial at SS. Peter and Paul, Springfield.
