It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of Richard M. Finley "Rick", 79, a 50 year resident of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Rick died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on July 3, 2026 while on vacation in his favorite place, Brigantine, New Jersey.
Rick was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later lived in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. He was raised catholic and attended catholic schools, but ultimately attended Marple Newtown High School. This is where he met the love of his life freshman year, Patricia "Pat" Finley (nee Cammarota). They later married and moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania building their loving family and beautiful life together.
Rick is survived by his wife and best-friend, Patricia Finley, sharing almost 7 decades together; his daughters Denise (Bill) Torreyson, and Erin (Josh) Palm; his pride and joy his grandchildren Will & Emily Torreyson, and Briley Palm; his siblings Paul (Lea) Finley, Marie (Ed) Murray, Delores Boyd, Peg (Jack) Carbaugh, and many nieces and nephews who adored their "Uncle Rick". He is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Florence Finley, his brother Martin Finley, sister-in-law Gloria Cammarota, sister and brother-in-law Joan and Larry Giglio, mother-in-law Jean Cammarota, and niece Kristen Cammarota.
Rick served in the Air Force after high-school where he gained a strong work ethic and the computer skills he used during his 50 year corporate career. He retired from IBM as System Engineering Manager after 30 years, and later retired from Weidenhammer Systems as Vice President after 20 years. Although he worked hard his whole life from the age of 14, he was excited when he retired to spend more time with his grandchildren and with Pat, down the shore.
Rick had such a big heart. He was a giving and caring man and a true protector of his family. He always made everyone feel welcome and special. You would often find him cooking and baking for family, friends or parties. His tomato pie & hot wings were out of this world! He loved family game nights and always made time for our annual family vacations and holiday gatherings. Rick was a true problem solver, you could always count on him to fix things or just provide solid advice. He was an avid reader, HUGE Philly sports fan - specifically the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers, big history buff, true patriot who loved his country, fun-loving, with a big smile and laugh, but also quite the debater. Rick loved his family deeply and was loved by so many, both family and lifelong friends. He was an old soul with strong values that he instilled in both of his girls and grandchildren, a man from that generation of true gentleman.
A memorial for family and friends will be held at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA on Thursday July 9, 2026, visitation beginning at 9:30am, ceremony will begin at 10:30am.
