Rhoda M Simpson

November 5, 1937 — April 1, 2025

Rhoda Mae "RhoRho" Simpson (nee Andrien), age 87, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on April 1, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Gladys Andrien (nee Baker). Rhoda's life was a stay at home mom focused on her children's education. After school, home work was the priority then family dinner. A specialty was liver and onions: just kidding! One of her great joys was watching her children play sports in the 69th street AA. Hard to recall who had more fun, the parents or the children. Spring in the 60’s, with three young children, were challenging times but filled with many fond memories with friends and family. Hockey sticks, gloves, nets, bats, gloves, baseballs, maroon and gold cheer leading outfit where all of this found a place in our daily lives and who can forget the catholic schools uniforms.

Amongst the chaos of our childhood mom was always there picking up the pieces. Above all, in a subtle way, she instilled in her children, the importance of education, respect for your elders and a never quit attitude. Delivering newspapers, playing sports, having friends were just many facets of life in the Simpson household. Memories cherished forever in our hearts. She didn't ask for much but delivered caring support in her own special way. Looking back the three of us were spoiled and loved.

For 45 years Rhoda worked for Corrigan Manning Company a small local company specializing in duplicating services for the archdiocese of Philadelphia. Close enough to home that allowed her to walk to the office. As the company grew MOM commuted to work daily by public transportation. Each move was further from home but rarely did she ever miss a day of work. Mom never drove so public transportation was her access to everywhere.

Work brought Rhoda much joy to her life. So much love for her work family. Echoes of her familiar laugh bring a smile of happiness to those who knew her. A special place for mom indeed! Camaraderie for a lifetime.

A proud graduate of West Catholic Girls High School, Rhoda cultivated a deep appreciation for her community and family, epitomizing the spirit of resilience and independence throughout her journey. She was a cherished member of St. Dorothy's Church, where her faith intertwined with her fierce dedication to the Little Sisters of the Poor, showcasing a life devoted not just to her family but also to the broader community she loved.

Rhoda was a follower of Villanova basketball and March Madness was her favorite tournament to watch. Similarly, she enjoyed the summer nights listening to the Phillies on radio or a rare Sunday televised game.

Rhoda was the beloved wife of the late Richard Simpson; loving mother of Richard Simpson (Amy), Ron Simpson (Janet), and Deborah Maguire (Brian); adoring grandmother of Brian Maguire (Sara), Kelsey Maguire Tracy (Joe), Leah Simpson, Great grandmother to Clara Maguire, Leo Maguire, and the late Baby Oliver P. Maguire; caring sister of Beverly "Bunny" Rich.
