Raymond R. MacNeil

Raymond R. MacNeil, 93, of Wayne, PA, husband of Ann (Carr) MacNeil, died on September 23, 2026. Ray and Ann celebrated 67 years of marriage together. Ray was born in Boston, MA on October 22, 1932, and was the son of the late Malcolm and Sadie MacNeil, who were both born in Nova Scotia. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Business. During his career, he first worked for the John Hancock Corporation and then had a distinguished 33-year career at Reliance Insurance Company, retiring in July 1991 as the Senior Vice President and COO of Reliance Surety Company’s Eastern Division.

Ray loved Nova Scotia and was proud of his Scottish heritage, spending many vacations at the house that he had built forty years ago on Cape Breton Island. In the 1960s, he built a cottage in Marshfield, MA, where the family spent nearly every summer weekend enjoying time with family and friends. Ray and Ann also enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod where they hosted several gatherings to connect with their Boston area friends and family.

He was a lifelong, avid Boston sports fan. He was also a proud Master Mason in the Milton Lodge of Massachusetts, where he dedicated his time to helping the community.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family. When he started having grandchildren in 1987, he had a pool built in the backyard to allow them to enjoy themselves.

He was a loving father to his three children, Alan C. MacNeil of Wayne, PA and Nova Scotia, Jean (Scott) Ashman of Philadelphia and Donald MacNeil of Wayne, PA. He was the beloved grandfather to Alana MacNeil, who predeceased him in 2005, Bethany (Matt) Malusa, Katie (Justin) Forry, and Christie (Luis) Parada. He also had eight great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his brothers Victor L. MacNeil and William L. MacNeil.

Friends may visit on October 2, 2026 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at The Donohue Funeral Home 366 W. Lancaster Ave, Wayne, PA. The MacNeil family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association .
