Paul Schaum, Jr., a dedicated public servant and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026. Born on June 19, 1937, Paul led a life marked by commitment, service, and a love for community and family.

“A lifelong resident of Springfield, Paul joined in 1955 and was a 71 year member of the fire company. Paul was also a Springfield Township Police Officer for 27 years. Throughout his years, Paul served as a Board of Director, Engineer, Chief Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief. Paul was known for his love of fire apparatus and was involved in the construction for most of the apparatus the fire company has used. Even though his firefighting days were long past Paul would still come to the firehouse every day to chat or help out when needed.” – Springfield Fire Company – Station 44

Paul’s service and dedication to the Township of Springfield and the Springfield Fire Company will surely be missed. Beyond his noble service in public safety, Paul was also a skilled electrician, applying his technical talents with precision and care.

Paul's early years included honorable military service in the Air Force at Willow Grove, PA, which instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and duty. This foundation carried through all aspects of his professional and personal life.

Paul had a passionate love of the outdoors, he especially cherished his time spent in Williamsburg, Virginia, a place close to his heart. For over 20 years, he was an esteemed member of the Rolling Green Golf Club, where his enthusiasm for golf was well known among friends and fellow members alike. The game brought him great joy and countless cherished memories.

Paul was the beloved son of the late Paul and Alice (Nee Owen) Schaum. He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha (Nee Kazanjian) Schaum; his son, Andrew Schaum (Jennifer) and their child Casey as well as Paul's daughter, Virginia Alger (J.C.) and their children, Jake and Max. He also leaves behind his siblings, Charlotte Roede and Richard Schaum, who, along with his entire family, carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.

Paul Schaum, Jr.'s life was a testament to resilience, honor, and the deep bonds of family and community. His memory will be treasured by many who were fortunate to know him, and his contributions will not be forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
