Oswald (Jay) Thiel, Age 83 of Millsboro, DE formerly of Folsom, PA passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2025.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 31st, 1941, he was the son of Oswald (Bub) Thiel and Marie (Saunders) Thiel. Jay was a graduate of Saint James High School. He was married to his wife Nettie (Carollo) Thiel for 64 years.
He worked for Dornan’s Printing and then started his own business, Auto Vinyl Tops with his partner John Sperratore. He also worked for many years for the Delaware County Housing Authority before retiring to southern Delaware. He loved cars, sports, playing golf, spending time with his children and grandchildren and a good Long Island Iced Tea.
Jay had a passion for cars. He owned and built several classic automobiles during his lifetime. He enjoyed showing them at the numerous car shows and was a member of the Delco Street Rod Association for countless years. He loved fixing things and helping people. He was kind and soft-spoken and had quite the sweet tooth. “Sweet” was how people would describe Jay.
In addition to his beloved wife Nettie, Jay is survived by his two daughters, Christine Tirney (Kevin), and Denise DelCasale. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathryn Williamson (Michael), and Gina Thiel. He was predeceased by his sister Joanne Powers.
Jay is survived by his grandchildren Natalie Rayer (Phil), Jake DelCasale (Amber), Colin Tirney (Kelsey), and Devon Tirney. He also had great-grandchildren, Janae and Rose Rayer, Declan Tirney and Dio DelCasale.
Family and friends are invited to Jay’s visitation on Tuesday May 20th 2025, 10:00am - 11:30 am at the Knotgen/Donohue Funeral Home at 746 Kedron Avenue, Morton, PA. Memorial Service at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Mary Campbell Center in New Castle County Delaware would be sincerely appreciated.
