Nancy Rush Staquet (nee Thompson), age 86, of Devon, PA, formerly of Broomall, PA, passed away on September 12, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mills and Eleanor Thompson (nee Thomas). Nancy's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with adventure, humor, and an unwavering love for her family and friends.
Nancy's love story with Duke, whom she met in Avon, Colorado, is one for the books. Their serendipitous meeting at a local restaurant, where she graced the tables as a waitress while he stirred cocktails as a bartender, blossomed into a deep and abiding romance. Their shared spirit of adventure led them to explore the mountains via snowmobiles, work together at banquets to reap the benefits of hotel life, and embark on trips that included stops at Hooters—where they collected stamps from each unique location worldwide. They loved celebrating Oktoberfest in Germany, reveled in camping excursions, gathered for family reunions, and made every happy hour an event worth anticipating.
In a testament to her profound devotion to family, Nancy sold her home in Broomall to her daughter, Kathy, and embarked on a significant journey back to Colorado, where she and Duke found their blissful sanctuary until he passed in 2015 due to cancer. Throughout their years together, they created an abundance of treasured memories, each a testament to their love and zest for life.
Nancy's interests were as eclectic as her travel journal. She found delight in Ocean City, New Jersey, savoring liverwurst sandwiches, perusing the pages of countless books, and enjoying her favorite white wine. Beloved among her family, she relished her role as a daycare provider for little children at Beaver Creek Ski Resort, filling their days with laughter and joy. In quieter moments, she felt at home tending to her garden or attending church, where her voice enriched the Vail Valley church choir.
A dedicated sports enthusiast, Nancy urgently cheered for the Phillies, Flyers, and Eagles, injecting her spirited passion into every game. Yet, her most treasured moments were spent in the warm company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a playful sense of humor, she could brighten any room with her jokes and infectious laughter, embodying a spirit that drew others close. Nancy was incredibly proud that she was a direct descendant of Benjamin Rush, who was a Founding Father of the United States and signatory to the US Declaration of Independence.
Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Duke Fehringer; loving mother of Kathy Hazel (Frank), Lucien “Lee” Staquet (Cheryl), Kenny M. Staquet (Ellen) and Karen E. McCleary; caring stepmother of David Fehringer (Jessie), Michael Fehringer (Reim), and Michelle Hamm (Rick); adoring grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; devoted sister of James Patterson Thompson (Marie Ann). Also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Nancy’s Visitation 9:30-10:30 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.
