Nancy T. Burke

NANCY TERESA BURKE     1932 ~ 2023

Nancy T. Burke (nee Gallagher), age 91, passed away on October 27, 2023. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Nicholas Paul and Beatrice Morris Gallagher, she was the second of four children. Her early years were spent in Watertown, Massachusetts until her family relocated to the Philadelphia suburb of Drexel Hill. Nancy attended St. Andrews Catholic School and West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School, in Philadelphia. After graduation, she worked as a Center City bank teller.

Nancy wed Stanford P. Burke (preceded in death 2013) in 1952. She managed the family’s Clifton Heights home prior to their move to Turnersville, NJ in 1969. Nancy put her math skills to work as a bookkeeper at Woodcrest Country Club, Cohen Dry Goods, Service Group of Malvern PA, and Ed Wood Dry Wall Construction before retiring in 2012.

Nancy was a doting, organized, generous, and hard working mother of five children. She was a knitter, seamstress, fabulous cook, and adept problem solver. Nancy had the ability to quietly support others with compassion, humor, selflessness, and a gentleness of spirit. She exuded beauty, poise, and grace while captivating everyone with her warm and generous smile.

Nancy’s favorite pastimes included cheering on the Phillies and frequent trips to Ocean City, NJ. She spent so many weekends with her sister Joan, sunbathing on the beach that she was nicknamed “the Sunshine Sister.” Family time was often spent at the Jersey shore. Nancy was a devoted Nana who loved to attend choral concerts, plays, ball games, formal dance photo ops, birthday parties, school events, and holidays with her grandchildren. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who dearly loved her.

Nancy is survived by her two sisters, Joan Gearhart and Sue McDonald (John Jr), and brother, Richard Gallagher. She also leaves behind her five children, Diane Neville (Christopher), Stanford Jr (Susan), Gregory (Kathleen), Suzanne, and Jennifer Laroque (Hugh), along with nine beloved grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. Katharine of Siena Church, 104 S. Aberdeen Ave, Wayne, PA 19087, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA.
