Michael J. Storey

March 14, 1957 — December 11, 2025

Havertown, PA

Michael J. “Mike” Storey, of Havertown, PA, beloved father and dedicated pilot, sadly passed away on December 11, 2025 at the age of 68.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Maurice C. and Joan T. (nee Connell) Storey.

Mike developed a deep passion for aviation early in life, nurtured by the influence of his father, a private pilot. This fascination with flying guided him through a remarkable career that spanned over 35 years as a commercial airline pilot.

Mike began his aviation journey at Wings Field in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, where he flew shuttle flights between Wings Field and Philadelphia International Airport. His dedication and skill led him to Air Virginia, and then on to Piedmont Airlines, which was later acquired by US Airways, and ultimately by American Airlines, from which he retired as a Captain. His commitment to his work was evident not only in his flying but also in the professionalism and passion he carried throughout his career.

Education played a significant role in Mike's life. He attended St. Leonard's Academy and later moved to Upper Darby, where he continued his education at St. Laurence Grade School and Monsignor Bonner High School. With a thirst for knowledge and self-improvement, Mike pursued his training at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, solidifying his proficiency as a commercial pilot.

In addition to his flying career, Mike had a profound love for music. He began playing the piano in grade school, quickly expanding his talents to include the guitar and banjo. Music became a cherished outlet for him, and he often graced the stage at monthly Coffee House nights at Camp Neumann, where he brought joy to many with his melodies.

A devoted father, Mike's three greatest loves were undoubtedly his daughters, Shauna and Erica, along with his lifelong passion for flying and music. He took great pride in his role as a father, always cherishing the special moments spent with his daughters, sharing in their joys and accomplishments.

Mike was also actively involved in his community, having risen to the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts before the age of 18. His dedication to working with children was evident through his many years of involvement at Camp Neumann in Jamison, PA, where he inspired and mentored countless young people.

Mike was the loving father of Shauna Storey and Erica Storey (Seth Kashuba), and the dear brother of Carolyn Bruce (John), Robert Storey (Karen), and Thomas Storey (Lori). He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.
